Everything a Well-Maintained Joomla Site Needs

Not just "we'll click update" — a proper maintenance process, applied on a schedule and checked afterwards.

Core Joomla updates

Every core release applied promptly, including security patches — never left "for later".

Template & extension updates

Every installed extension and your template kept current, not just the CMS core.

Staging test first

On Growth and Priority, updates are tested on a private staging copy before they touch your live site.

Off-site backups

Automated backups before every update, stored off-server, on a schedule that matches your plan.

24/7 uptime monitoring

Your site is checked continuously — if it goes down, we usually know before you do.

Security & malware scanning

Regular scans catch injected code or compromised files early, not months after the fact.

Performance & speed checks

On Growth and Priority, we keep an eye on page speed and flag anything slowing your site down.

Monthly report

On Priority, a plain-English monthly summary of what was updated, checked and fixed.

Most Joomla hacks exploit updates that were never applied

Security researchers consistently find that successful attacks on CMS sites tend to target known, already-patched vulnerabilities — the fix existed, it just hadn't been installed yet.

Untested updates are their own risk

An extension update can just as easily break your site as fix it. That's why Growth and Priority plans test on staging first — updating safely matters as much as updating at all.

Small, regular fixes cost less than one big rescue

A site that's fallen years behind on updates is far more expensive and risky to bring current than one kept up to date a little at a time, every month.

How Your Monthly Maintenance Actually Runs

The same repeatable process every time — so updates stop being a source of anxiety and just become routine.

1
Step 1

Backup first — a fresh off-site backup is taken before anything is touched, so there's always a safe point to roll back to.

2
Step 2

Update on schedule — Joomla core, your template and every installed extension are brought current, in the right order.

3
Step 3

Test the result — on Growth and Priority this happens on staging first; either way, the live site is checked over after every update.

4
Step 4

Confirm & report — you hear from us only if something needs a decision; Priority clients also get a monthly summary of everything done.

Common Questions

Maintenance & Updates FAQs

Routine Joomla core, template and extension updates are applied monthly on every plan. If a critical security patch is released for something on your site, we'll bring that forward rather than waiting for the scheduled run.

On Growth and Priority, yes — updates are applied to a private staging copy first and checked over before going live. On Essential, updates go straight to the live site with a fresh backup taken immediately beforehand, so there's always a safe rollback point.

We roll back to the pre-update backup and investigate before trying again. Fixing an issue caused by a maintenance update is covered by your plan's included support time, not billed separately.

No — routine maintenance keeps you current within your existing major version. A move to a new major version (for example Joomla 5 to 6) is a separate, planned migration project, since templates and extensions often need compatibility work first. See our Joomla 6 migration service for that.

A rolling set of recent backups is kept off-server for every plan, with more frequent snapshots on higher tiers. If you need a longer retention window for compliance reasons, just ask and we'll confirm what we can arrange.

Usually, yes. We'll start with a quick health check to see how far behind things are and flag anything that needs fixing before ongoing maintenance can begin safely, then bring the site current in a controlled way rather than all at once.
