On Monday, 18th March, the No.1 Detachment, located at Dyke Road, Brighton, was honoured with a visit by the Mayor, accompanied by Councillor Amanda Grimshaw BEM. This event provided a unique opportunity for guests to gain a deeper understanding of the cadet experience and the values and skills it cultivates.

The visit was graced with the presence of Major Jim Boyden, five potential recruits and their families, probationary instructors Paul Stanbra and Harry Miller, and the Detachment Commander, Sergeant Instructor James Murray.

In a significant moment, Madam Mayor O'Quinn recognised the achievements of Probationary Instructor Paul Stanbra by promoting him to Sergeant Instructor upon the completion of his adult training.

This was followed by a briefing for new joiners, offering insights into the myriad opportunities the Army Cadet Force offers young individuals.

Sergeant Paul Stanbra expressed his personal journey with the Cadets

Having missed the chance to join the Army Cadets in my youth due to unawareness of its existence, becoming an adult volunteer has been transformative. It's enabled me to develop new skills, engage in fresh experiences, and offer similar opportunities to others. The structured teaching methods of the ACF have been a useful skills that I can utilise in my day job working as a computer repair and IT Support specialist. The honour of being promoted by the Mayor made it all the more rewarding.

Madam Mayor O'Quinn shared her impressions, stating,

I was honored to attend a cadet evening of the No.1 Brighton Detachment at the Quebec Army Reserve Centre in Brighton. It was amazing to meet such enthusiastic cadets, they were impressive.
