BT has named the first 29 exchanges that will be benefitting from a 40/mbit internet connection next year. There is of course a London bias but in total, this development will reach 500'000 homes. The system will use fibre optic cable but homes will connect to junction boxes in the street using their existing phone line. BT say this technology has the ability to support even 60Mbit/sec. Upload speeds of 10Mbit/sec will also be available.
Some of the exchanges that will benefit next year are:
Calder Valley, Taffs Well, Chelmsford, Essex,St Albans, Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Leagrave, Luton, Canonbury, Chingford, Enfield, Highams Park, Tottenham, Thamesmead, Woolwich, bury, Didsbury,Failsworth, Heaton Mooor, Oldham, Risholme, Belfast, Balmoral, Dean, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Halifax, Pudsey, West Yorkshire and Humber
